Drove to central Victoria over the weekend for what was to be a wonderful performance with Kutcha Edwards & Friends at the FRL Festival. Awesome vibe and a fantastic setup. Thanx to Bill Skermer and all the amazing staff for looking after us - see you again no doubt.
This photo from today's festival sums up the integral importance of retaining culture and tradition to guide and educate our next generation in Australia; no matter what creed. A great show with Kutcha Edwards made today special.
2017 gets underway with some great gigs with my good friend Kutcha Edwards. January 21st for the Wominjeka Festival at Footscray's Community Arts Centre, followed by a benefit for the Wilderness Society to fight fracking (see poster below for details). Looking forward to lots of music in the upcoming year...
DEADLY was an Indigenous conference last week held in Gippsland, which I was honoured to be a part of. We got to launch the "On Country" CD, a collection of language, stories and musical reflections on the theme of country, culture and the act of Deep Listening. However, the highlight for me was meeting up again with Kutcha Edwards and getting to hear him perform. I have not been so moved by a performance in a very long time - thank you sir. He and I spoke about the possibility of him doing a Blues album - now that would be a record I'd love to work on. Kutcha is a serious talent and above all a voice for all indigenous Australians. If you haven't laid your hands upon his latest release then here's his website: www.kutcha-edwards.com
